Podcasts

I’ve been obsessing over podcasts for a few years now.  I really enjoy listening to them when I’m driving, it makes road trips go by so fast + it’s a good way to stay more alert. Now that I started, I can’t stop and I find myself listening to them all day at my desk too! Can’t stop, won’t stop.

I really enjoy reading so I thought I might enjoy listening to a book but I don’t love somebody reading an actual book to me.  Since they write their own scripts, podcasts are the perfect in between for me to hear a story.

CRIME JUNKIE

I’m a lover of anything true crime and this one is a personal favorite. Ashley Flowers is the narrator and brings life back into (mostly) cold cases and tries to use her audience to bring attention to otherwise forgotten cases. She is incredible and says what I’m thinking. She doesn’t always agree with the original investigation and will bring up really valid points. There are new episodes every Monday and a nice roundup of episodes already, feel free to binge!

Dirty John

This one had my jaw dropping a few times.  John Meehan, (supposedly) a successful doctor finds Debra Newell, a well known designer in Orange County on a dating website. While Debra is head over heels, her daughter is especially skeptical and the rest of her family becomes more concerned as time goes on. I don’t want to give it away, but you won’t believe how this story unfolds.

Serial

Serial is a podcast I have listened to since the very beginning and Sarah Koenig has the most soothing voice. Season 3 is by far my favorite. Sarah Koenig and Emmanuel Dzotsi, both reporters, follow along the Cleveland court system for a year. They point out the injustices, stacking sentences, and the hamster wheel a person often falls into when they get in trouble.   They left me wanting more when it ended and wishing for a better life for the people interviewed in the podcast.

The Drop Out

Elizabeth Holmes was once a rising star and the youngest self-made woman billionaire as the founder of Theranos. Theranos was a company that claimed they could run hundreds of blood tests with a drop of blood and their blood testing device. While many people bought into it, the science wasn’t adding up and Theranos employees were catching on. Questions were not welcome in their business model and nobody stayed employed too long. I was really surprised how long it took before their fraud came to light. The story itself is well worth a listen.

Rethink your money

I really enjoy this one. John Hagensen is an independent financial fiduciary who educates every day people on financial planning strategies. John incorporates every day life examples to financial situations which I appreciate because it ends up making perfect sense to me.  He also stresses the importance of understanding tax laws + investments. All in all, it’s something I think everyone should at a minimum tune into to.  It is so important to understand your goals and mapping how to get there. +++ It’s free information. You’ve got nothing to lose!

Skimm’d From The Couch

The co-founders of theSkimm (my favorite news outlet) have a podcast where they invite women to share their wins, best and worst advice they have received along the way, the people they call when shit hits and fan and the person they would call for their biggest successes. Their one rule: No BS.  I’ve gained a lot of solid information from this podcast.

Broken Harts

I had a tough time with this one but I’m so glad I listened to it. I somehow didn’t hear about this story in the news. Six children (3 siblings + 3 siblings) were adopted by Sarah and Jen Hart. Outside looking it, it appears they have a really incredible life (you know, social media can paint that picture) but the more I heard, the more I realized their life wasn’t as it seemed. The ending is tragic when Jen drives their family vehicle off a cliff and all eight of them are found dead.

RISE podcast

No surprise here… Rachel Hollis is all over the place as a Best-Seller. The girl is relateable, there’s no doubt about it. There are so many personal development tips and a ton of successful people sharing their hearts and their journey on how to ended up where they are today.  Self development is something I only learned about in my late 20’s-early 30’s and it’s SO VALUABLE!

There are a lot of options but this is a good start. Let me know what you are listening to!
